A small crag but a worthwhile outing, Tarakohe (or Tarakohe/Pohara, which is its correct description) features some excellent limestone and is similar to Paynes Ford.

From the cement works at Tarakohe, travel along the road and through the tunnel to access the large wall on the right of the road.

The Tower & The Tunnel


Please don't climb in the areas shown on the images below. The route near the tunnel was removed after concern by the police about people dropping stuff on cars and almost taking a windscreen out during a fall !!! This is also an issue on the tower as the rock is loose.
